What Is Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB)?

Think of PTSD like a circuit breaker that's stuck "on." Your brain's alarm system keeps firing even when there's no danger. SGB is like hitting the reset button on that circuit.  It's a precise injection of numbing medicine (like what dentists use) into a bundle of nerves in your neck. These nerves control your body's "fight or flight" response. The injection temporarily blocks these nerves, giving your brain a chance to reset.

The whole thing takes 15 minutes. You stay awake the entire time. It tells your overworked nervous system: "You're safe now."

This isn't talk therapy. This is science.

Does It Actually Work?

In a study* with 285 people living with constant anxiety — the kind where you’re always on edge, worried, or restless (often a sign your nervous system is stuck in a trauma-like state)
8 out of 10 people got significantly better
The improvement was over twice as strong as what doctors call “clinically meaningful”
These weren’t small improvements - those that had the treatment could finally relax, sleep, and think more clearly

Is It Safe?
Yes. It’s the same numbing medicine dentists have used safely for decades. In this study, no one had to go to the hospital. The most common temporary side effect was a hoarse voice for a few hours.

Bottom Line:
15 minutes. One injection. About an 80% success rate. You go home the same day.

Some injuries are invisible.

You can’t see them on an X-ray -
but your body still feels them.

If you’ve been through something hard - on the job, at home, or in your past - your brain might have flipped into survival mode... and just never turned off.

That’s not your fault.

It’s your brain’s alarm system (called the amygdala) doing its job too well - staying stuck on “high alert” even when you’re safe.

SGB helps send a message to your nervous system:

“You’re okay now. You can rest.”

It works by calming the stress nerves in your neck, which talk to your brain every day.

When those nerves quiet down, your body can finally breathe, sleep, and think clearly again.
You don’t have to be a veteran or a first responder.
If you feel tense, stuck, or always on edge - this might help your body reset.

SGB targets the stellate ganglion, a key nerve hub in your neck.
With a small injection, it signals to your brain: “You’re safe now.”
Many people feel relief in minutes to hours, with most people reporting feeling calmer, thinking clearer, and sleeping better than they have in years.

“Neuroimaging shows SGB reduces overactivity in the amygdala - the brain’s fear center - by calming the sympathetic nervous system.”

- VA Evidence Synthesis Program, 2020

What It’s Like

10-15 minute outpatient procedure

You stay awake - no sedation, no talk therapy

Most people feel calmer, clearer, and more rested within 24–48 hours

Is SGB Right For You?

If therapy or medication haven’t brought lasting relief, it may be because your body’s stress response is still stuck in overdrive.

When your body stays on high alert no matter what you do, it’s not a lack of effort.  It’s your nervous system stuck in survival mode.

Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) helps it reset, so calm becomes possible again.
